Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I am afraid of the dentist. What should I do?

A. You are not alone in this area. 1 out of 2 Americans are afraid of the dentist for many reasons. The best way to overcome this fear is to come in. Ask as many questions as you feel you need to ask no matter how ridiculous you may think those questions sound. Ask for as many details as you need to calm your mind and when you are satisfied, enjoy our massage therapy chair. Indulge in a warming and comforting neck, back, and leg massage, while listening to calming music as the dentist or hygienist gently treats you.

Q. How much for a professional cleaning?

A. It depends on the type of cleaning you require. There is more than one type and only the doctor can determine for sure what kind of cleaning you need based on the results of your x-rays and exam.

Q. How much for a check-up?

A. It depends on the benefits provided by your insurance or discount plan. If paying privately the fee will vary depending on whether you provide your own x-rays, the type of cleaning you require, and if you have any applicable coupons.

Q. I brush my teeth everyday and they don't bother me. Why do I need to see a dentist at all?

A. Bacteria grows on the teeth that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Your dentist has the tools needed to spot these bacteria and to treat them in order to keep them from spreading to your gums and other places in your body. This spreading of bacteria beyond the teeth is called gum disease and has no cure. It can only be controlled. Your dentist can help you keep these harmful bacteria from spreading to your heart and brain thus helping you avoid other problems such as heart disease, heart attack, and stroke, to name a few.

Q. How often do I need a professional cleaning?

A. In the absence of any periodontal issues, cleanings are done every six months. However, if there is a history of periodontal disease, it is recommended that cleanings be done every three months in order to keep the condition under control and from progressing.

Q. How do I know if I need professional cleanings every 3 months?

A. If in the past you had to have treatments such as Periodontal Maintenance, Scaling, or Osseous surgery, you should see your dentist every three months to keep you periodontal condition under control.

Q. With all the whitening systems available over the counter, why should I see a dentist for whitening?

A. While a lot of the over the counter whitening systems available are good at eliminating surface stains, only the professional whitening systems at your dentist office can get rid of the underlying stains that the over the counter products cannot reach. Consequently, those stains will show through the enamel if not removed.

Q. What is the youngest age you see children?

A. We see children from 2 ½ years old and up.

Q. What if I don’t have insurance?

A. We accept cash, all major credit and debit cards, checks, money orders, Carecredit, and Citi Health Plan payments

Q. I have a plan that I am not sure is insurance or not. What do I do?

A. Contact the office and give anyone of the appointment secretaries your information and they can verify the nature of your coverage and get back to you.

Q. Why do I have to provide my social security number?

A. Most insurances use your social security number as your ID for your plan. We need this number not only to verify your coverage and benefits but also to be paid by your insurance carrier once we provide you service. The insurance industry is taking strides towards moving away from using social security numbers, but the process is slow and until they all make this move, we have to abide by their standards.

Q. What if I choose not to provide my social security number?

A. We are still happy to see you but you will be responsible for paying the fees your insurance company would have paid us had we been able to send them a claim for services rendered to you.

Q. Do I have to pay for my treatment upfront?

A. For treatment that will be completed the same day of your visit, yes. Otherwise, payment is due in full on the final visit that will complete the treatment.
